Here’s a quote from the article: “Have you had one of those days when the fish are hitting your bait but you just can’t seem to land one? Chances are the near misses have a lot to do with your terminal tackle, especially the hook at the end of your line…The second new hook design that showed promise is the Spintech hook by Basstar. Spintech hooks look like any other treble hooks you have dangling from your favorite lures, but these, as their name implies, spin 360 degrees and do so without binding. The three barbs are fastened to a tube through which the straight hook shank passes. That tube, in turn, spins around the shank or “line tie pin.”

Thursday, August 19th, 2010On behalf of the Connecticut Bass Federation Nation and myself. Thank you for sending us a Superior product. I used these hooks on my Lucky Craft Crank bait this weekend Aug. 15,2010 in the Final Federation Tournament on the CT. River. I won the event with 12.22 lbs and never lost a fish. These hooks are a great asset to any fisherman. With the amount of Topwaters and crankbaits I have I will need to do a lot of replacing. As one of the Top anglers in CT I will definitely spread the word.

Basstar introduces the worlds first infinite diving crankbait, Dredger comes equipped with a built in rotating hook system for both the belly and tail hook along with the golf ball dimples on the body for a different reflection underwater. What makes the DREDGER different from other deep diving crankbaits in the market is that we have figured out a way to internally and externally balance the weight so that the bait will dive straight down to any preferred depth. The Dredger will dive straight down with no spiraling or line twists. Once the Dredger reaches its depth the bait will stand straight up keeping the hooks away from the bottom reducing chances of hang up. Unlike traditional crankbaits where the bait will only reach its target depth zone for a short time, The Dredger will dive to its target depth from where the bait lands and stay in the zone all the way back for the full retrieve. We have seen some outstanding creativity and innovation in treble hooks in the last few months. Mustad comes out with the new short shanked KVD Elite Triple Grips and all that happens is Kevin VanDam wins the Bassmaster Classic. He was throwing a Strike King Redeye Shad with those hooks and gave credit to them in the win. Ever remember a treble hook getting credit for a major tournament win?
Recently we came upon a California based company called BassStar Bait Company who has designed a rotating treble, the first of its kind, that doesn’t allow the fish to get leverage against the bait. Anglers for years have known that this condition has caused them to lose fish on crankbaits and topwaters. Although the idea is simple, this hook surely is not. They are made with high carbon steel, have surgically sharpened needle points and are tough as nails. They are not bulky to cause baits to lose action and are built with sound manufacturing practices.
They come in the standard No. 1, 2, 4 and 6 sizes but also come in 1/0, 2/0 and 3/0 sizes for larger baits as well. More sizes are on the way.
Anglers who have tried them swear by them, and we recently spoke to Elite pro Dave Wolak who said “These hooks have made a major difference in my hooking to landing ratio. New Bass Record a Tie!!

The IGFA announced its decision today. The 22 pound, 4.97 ounce largemouth caught in Japan by Manabu Kurita will be shown as a tie. George Perry’s bass that held the record for over 75 years will be considered a tie although it weighed 22 pounds, 4 ounces. The IGFA requires a new record be beat by two ounces to be considered as breaking the old record.
This rule may not make sense, but the reason is scales are much more accurate now than in the past, and most scales in the past were spring loaded and showed pounds and ounces, not tenths and hundredths of ounces and pounds. So it is possible George Perry’s bass weighed as much as Manabu Kurita since the weight was probably rounded off to the nearest ounce.
